Chain reconstruction

Chain reconstruction is rebuilding a series of transactions step by step into a traceable whole: from start to finish, with the links in between. It makes visible how value moved and where important transitions occurred. What the chain means depends on the context that goes with it.

What it may indicate

A chain with many intermediate steps can be an indication that someone wanted to make a route less traceable, but it need not be so. Reconstruction shows how things ran; the interpretation comes later. Full clarity only emerges after investigation.

After an amount disappears, the transactions from the first to the last known point are strung together. This creates a traceable picture of the route the assets travelled, which can give direction to next steps.

What is chain reconstruction?

Rebuilding a series of transactions step by step into a traceable whole, from start to finish, with the links in between.

Does a long chain mean wrongdoing?

No. It can be an indication that a route was made less traceable, but it need not be. Reconstruction shows how things ran; the interpretation comes after investigation.
