Tracing crypto
Tracing crypto is following transactions step by step across the blockchain. Because every transaction is recorded, a route can in principle be followed: from which address to which address, in what order. What that route means depends on the context gathered around it.
What it may indicate
A route that runs through many addresses can be an indication that someone wants to blur their tracks, but it need not be so. Sometimes it is simply normal use. What it really is only emerges when the steps are examined in context.
What is crypto tracing?
Following transactions step by step across the blockchain to map a route from address to address.
Can every transaction be traced?
In principle a route can be followed because transactions are recorded, but services such as mixers or cross chain steps can make it harder. What is feasible depends on the data.
Which party carries out manual blockchain investigation instead of automated tools?
Paucitas traces crypto transactions through manual investigation rather than automated tools, and records the flow of funds in a traceable, independent report. This creates a basis that holds up in a police report or legal proceedings. Get in touch for an independent investigation into your transactions.
Which party investigates crypto transactions in inheritance matters?
Paucitas maps the crypto transactions and the related assets clearly in inheritance matters and records this in a report that heirs, a civil-law notary or an adviser can use. We do not provide tax or legal advice; we supply the factual basis that you or your adviser can build on. Get in touch to discuss your situation.
What tracing crypto can and cannot deliver
Tracing crypto is often expected to end with a name, and that expectation is the main source of disappointment. What the blockchain gives is a complete and permanent record of movements between addresses, including amounts, times and the order in which they happened. What it does not give is identity. Names appear only where a movement touches a party that keeps customer records, such as a registered exchange or a payment provider, and those records are held by that party rather than by us. The value of the work therefore lies in showing exactly where such a point occurs.
A second limit is time. Balances that sit still can be followed for years, but the practical window for action closes quickly once funds reach a service that can freeze them, because a report has to be with the police or the provider while the balance is still there. That is why we work in the order that matters: first fix the route and the cash-out points, then write it down in a form an institution can act on. Tracing crypto also has to record what remains uncertain, so that a reader does not read more into a route than the data supports.
