Urgent crypto report: when your bank, solicitor or the court sets a deadline
Author: Simcha Schrijver
In brief
An urgent crypto report is often possible, but how quickly depends on your case. A straightforward source of funds question can sometimes be done the same day, while a case with many wallets and years of transactions takes longer. Paucitas tells you honestly in advance what is realistic within your deadline.
As an independent expert firm, Paucitas handles hundreds of cases a year, for individuals, business owners, solicitors and other legal professionals. An investigation takes from the same day to about two weeks, and you receive a report anyone can follow step by step.

Put simply
A deadline from your bank, solicitor or the court can often be met if someone looks at it in good time. The sooner Paucitas is involved, the more room there is. Ask Paucitas.
A letter or email arrives: your bank wants to know within fourteen days where your crypto came from. Or your conveyancer tells you the purchase of your home cannot complete until the source of your deposit is clear. Or your solicitor needs evidence ahead of a hearing. Every day then feels long. That is understandable, and it happens regularly.

When do you need an urgent crypto report?
In practice, Paucitas sees four situations where a deadline comes into play:
- Your bank sets a deadline. Your bank asks for evidence of the source of money from crypto and gives a date by which it wants an answer.
- Your conveyancer and the completion date. You are buying a home with money from crypto. Your solicitor or conveyancer must know where that money came from before the purchase can complete.
- A deadline in proceedings. Your solicitor needs a report for a hearing or a deadline set by the court, for example in a divorce, an estate or a business dispute, whether in England and Wales or in Scotland.
- A mortgage offer that is due to expire. The lender wants the deposit from crypto evidenced before the offer runs out.
In all of these cases it is usually not an accusation. It is a check the firm has to carry out, just with a date attached.
Why can't a bank or solicitor simply wait?
Banks, solicitors and conveyancers fall under the Money Laundering Regulations 2017. They must know their customer and, where needed, understand the source of funds (legislation.gov.uk, regulation 28). If they are unable to complete those checks, the regulations say they must not carry out the transaction (legislation.gov.uk, regulation 31). So a deadline is usually not unwillingness, but the result of rules the firm itself is bound by.
With crypto, the source is often harder to show than with ordinary savings. There are wallets, exchanges and sometimes years of transactions. That is why firms ask for more than a screenshot. You can also read our blog on a bank blocking your account over crypto.
How quickly can Paucitas prepare a crypto report?
An investigation by Paucitas takes from the same day to about two weeks. Where your case falls within that range depends mainly on three things: how many wallets and exchanges are involved, how many years the transactions cover and what information you already have. A short, clear route can sometimes be done the same day. Wealth built up over years across different platforms takes longer.
Paucitas looks at this with you first, during a free intake. You hear honestly in advance whether your deadline is realistic. If it is tight, Paucitas will say so, so that you can speak to your bank, solicitor or conveyancer in good time. That cannot always be judged from a distance, which is why Paucitas would rather take a quick look. Get in touch and you will soon know where you stand.
What does Paucitas do when time is short?
Even when time is short, you get the complete package. Paucitas follows the transactions on the blockchain and records which wallets and accounts are yours. Paucitas also reads through all the documents, emails, conversations and other communication you have, such as exchange statements, confirmation emails and bank statements. That gives a complete picture, with a timeline and, step by step, where the money came from and where it went.
You do not need to have everything complete. Paucitas helps you gather what is needed and asks specifically for what is still missing. You can share documents digitally, or visit our office by appointment. You can read how an instruction works in our blog on instructing a crypto investigation.
An example from practice
A client was buying a flat and planned to pay part of it with money from crypto he had built up since 2018. Two weeks before completion, his conveyancer asked for evidence of the source of funds. He had an old exchange account, two wallets of his own and a folder of emails. Paucitas mapped the route from his first purchase to the sale and linked it to his bank statements. The report was ready well before completion, and the conveyancer was able to close the file.
Paucitas values privacy and never shares clients' personal details. This is a composite example: names, amounts and details differ. The situation is, however, one we see in practice.
What can you do with the Paucitas report?
The report shows where your wealth came from, which route it took and what the next steps could be. You can give it to your bank, your solicitor or conveyancer, your mortgage lender or your legal representative in a dispute. The report is written so that anyone can follow and understand it step by step, including someone who knows little about crypto. That saves questions later on, and often time as well. If it concerns a property, see also our blog on buying a home with money from crypto.
Your solicitor can use the report in proceedings: it has a clear structure, the underlying documents and a timeline. Paucitas does not give tax or legal advice. Paucitas provides the facts and the evidence; your adviser or solicitor decides what to do with them.
