Deepfake
What is a deepfake?
A deepfake is produced by training an AI model on genuine images or voice samples of a person, after which it generates convincing new material. In scams this technique is used to build trust: the victim believes they are watching a known entrepreneur or news broadcast, while everything has been fabricated.
How do you recognise a deepfake in a crypto scam?
Watch for unnatural mouth and eye movements, a voice track that is slightly out of sync, and above all the message itself: a guaranteed high return or pressure to invest quickly is a stronger warning sign than the image.
What is a deepfake?
Image or sound recreated with artificial intelligence, so that someone appears to say or do something that never happened.
How can you often recognise a deepfake?
From the surroundings rather than from the image: an advertisement without an official source, an unknown platform, pressure to act quickly and a promise about returns.
What do you do if a deepfake persuaded you?
Stop any further payments, keep the advertisement, the messages and the transaction details, and report it. That record determines how much is left to investigate later.
Can a deepfake be evidence in a file?
The recording itself is a lead, especially with the location, date and accounts used alongside it. The payments that followed are usually the harder part of the file.
How synthetic media is used to open a wallet
The technique matters less than the moment it is used. Manipulated video and cloned audio almost always appear at the point where trust has to be confirmed: a video call with someone who looks like an adviser, a voice message from a family member asking you to move funds quickly, a recorded endorsement from a public figure who has never heard of the platform. Each of those is designed to remove the pause in which you would normally check something through a different channel.
What can be established afterwards is more limited than people hope. A file can record what was sent, when it arrived and which transfers followed, and it can preserve the material itself. It cannot usually prove how the material was made, and an expert opinion on whether a clip is genuine is a separate discipline from following the money. In our reports the two are kept apart deliberately: the transfers and their timing are stated as fact, and the recording is described as an exhibit with the date it was received.

More questions about deepfakes
What do I do if a deepfake persuaded me to invest?
Record what you saw and did: the video or voice, the platform and the transfers. Paucitas maps the transactions in a traceable way, so it becomes clear where the invested money went.
Are deepfakes becoming harder to recognise?
Yes, the technology is improving quickly, making image and voice more convincing. That is why context matters most: an unexpected investment proposal remains a reason for caution, even when the footage looks real.
Your own situation
If you are reading this, you probably have a question about your own situation. That is exactly what Paucitas does.
The first step is contact by phone. We prefer to schedule that call through WhatsApp, so you do not have to wait. In the call we look together at what can factually be established in your case and what Paucitas can examine for you.
