Crypto training for professionals: what will your team learn?
Author: Simcha Schrijver
In brief
Crypto training for professionals helps people who come across cryptocurrency in their files, such as lawyers, insolvency practitioners, tax advisers and compliance staff. You learn how crypto and wallets work, what role crypto plays in fraud and money laundering cases and what that means for your own practice.
Paucitas is an independent expert firm that investigates hundreds of cases a year. That casework is the basis of every Paucitas training session, tailored to your sector and your group.

Put simply
Crypto turns up in all sorts of files, from divorce to insolvency and from fraud to source of funds questions. If you know the basics, you ask better questions and spot sooner when something needs a closer look. Ask Paucitas about the options.
You are working on a file and suddenly there is a wallet address in a document, or a statement from an exchange that tells you very little. A client mentions gains from crypto, or the other side quotes a figure in bitcoin. This happens regularly, including at firms that otherwise have little to do with crypto. It is quite understandable if you are not sure straight away which questions to ask.

What is crypto training for professionals?
Training from Paucitas is aimed at professionals in every sector who come across cryptocurrency in their work. Think of lawyers, insolvency practitioners, tax advisers, accountants and compliance teams. It is not a course on investing in or trading crypto. It is about understanding: what are you looking at in a file, what does it mean, and which questions go with it?
Paucitas has previously delivered, among other things, the NOvA-accredited course for criminal defence lawyers and criminal law practitioners in the Netherlands, a closed lecture for insolvency practitioners, a training session for an asset manager and a talk for a venture capital firm. You can read more about what we offer on our services page.
Why does knowledge of crypto matter in your files?
Crypto leaves traces on the blockchain, but those traces are not readable on their own. A statement from an exchange only tells part of the story, and a wallet address says little by itself about who controls it. Knowing that helps you assess a file properly and stops important questions from being left unanswered.
For businesses covered by the Money Laundering Regulations 2017, there is a further point. Regulation 24 requires relevant employees to be made aware of the law on money laundering and to be regularly given training in how to recognise and deal with transactions that may be related to it (Money Laundering Regulations 2017, regulation 24). If crypto appears in your client files, it makes sense for it to have a place in that training too. How you organise this is up to your organisation. What does crypto training for professionals from Paucitas cover?
Every session starts with a clear foundation and is then tailored to the day-to-day practice of your group. These four topics come up often:
- The basics. What crypto is, how a blockchain works and what a transaction looks like.
- Wallets. How wallets work, how they are secured and what that means for access and ownership.
- Crypto in fraud and money laundering cases. Which patterns and signs tend to come up in practice.
- Your own practice. Which questions you can ask in a file and when an investigation makes sense.
How far the training goes into each topic depends on your group. A team of insolvency practitioners has different questions from a compliance department or a criminal law practice. That is why Paucitas agrees the content with you beforehand. Curious what would suit your team? Get in touch with Paucitas.
How is the training tailored to your own practice?
Paucitas investigates cases involving investment fraud, crypto fraud and the source of crypto wealth itself, and does all tracing in-house, without tracing tools. That experience runs through the training: not theory from a distance, but recognisable situations from practice, without sharing any client details. Read, for example, how Paucitas carries out manual blockchain investigation, or which patterns fit crypto money laundering.
Training is delivered on site, at our office or online, and can be personalised for any sector: law firms, tax advisers, insolvency practitioners, compliance and more.
An example from practice
A compliance team had several clients in a short space of time who wanted to bring in wealth from crypto. In the training, Paucitas walked the team through what an exchange statement looks like, what a wallet address does and does not tell you, and which questions fit a source of funds enquiry. Afterwards the team was better able to judge when a file was complete, and when it was sensible to have an independent investigation carried out.
Paucitas values privacy and never shares clients' personal details. This is a composite example: names and details differ. The situation is, however, one we see in practice.
What if a file needs more than knowledge?
Sometimes it becomes clear during or after a training session that something is genuinely going on in a file. Paucitas can then carry out the investigation itself. Paucitas does more than follow transactions: Paucitas reads through all conversations, documents, emails and other communication, puts everything on a timeline and shows step by step where the money went. It all comes together in a report that anyone can follow and understand step by step. You can read more about our work for lawyers and insolvency practitioners and for accountants and advisers on our site.
